Cleveland's Story

Vetsuite_Img_/Images/ViewImage.aspx?Id=34430&height=90&width=100
Cleveland is a one to two year old, female, 30 pound, mixed breed.  She was hit by a car on 3/26/07 on Cleveland Road and left to fend for herself.  One of our technicians found her, and immediately brought her to HOPE.  X-rays showed that both of her back legs were broken, and her pelvis was broken in three places.  Euthanasia was discussed, but after spending some time with this little dog, we decided that if she had the will to make it through her injuries, we had the will to help her mend.

Cleveland has amazed us all during her recovery - the mornings after her surgeries she has been up and ready to walk.  Now she is getting around without any assistance from us and loves to have her morning gallop through the clinic.  The injuries that she sustained were very severe.  She has had four surgeries so far, and will probably require more as she gets older.  Cleveland spends some days here at HOPE and spends the rest of her time at home with one of our technicians.  We had hoped to place her in a permanent home, but due to some aggression issues, we are unable to adopt her out at this time.  Staff members here at HOPE work with her on a regular basis, and she is making remarkable progress with regards to her injuries and her attitude, but she still has a long way to go.

Although Cleveland's story starts out tragic, it's hard to look at her now and feel anything but happy as she scurries around the clinic, shreds her toys, and begs for belly rubs.  She has overcome so much, has a wonderful spirit, and is adapting well to being spoiled rotten.  We hope that she will be an ambassador for stray animals by raising awareness and encouraging people to do more in their own communities.
